No Google Wave invite in my inbox yet. Sigh.
And so far only one seller on eBay, with a current high bid of $51.00.
I'm gonna try to wait until tomorrow, by tomorrow one of the following will probably take place:
1. I will receive an invite from Google (in my dreams)
2. More sellers will list invites on eBay
3. More sellers will not list invites on eBay, driving the bid up on the currently available invite to over $2,500.

Over the last couple weeks, a few friends have suffered various computer crashes and data losses.
The following tip originated with a comment by Brad Coy on a Bloodhound Blog post:
Use Google Reader as part of a back up system for your blog! (Any RSS reader will do, of course, but Google is handy and easy to use.)
Open up Google Reader.
Create a new subscription to your own blog.
That's it you're done. Set it aside and forget about it.
But if you ever have a computer crash, or lose your previous blog posts in any other way, just open up Google Reader, and there they are.
Using a backup program or the WordPress export function makes for easier automatic recovery of lost posts, of course. But the RSS feed can prove to be a great safety net when you discover your backup barfed along with your harddrive.
Here are a couple simple searches that deliver useful information about your own web site or blog.
Want to see how many of your internal pages are recognized by Google?
Search site:mysite.com
Want to see how many other web pages link to your site?
Search link:mysite.com
Want to see the Google cached version of the site, or when it was last cached?
Search for the site name, then in the Google search results list, click "Cached"
If you haven't tried this before, it is an interesting little exercise:
Google the address of one of your listings. Like this:
For example, our listing at 5024 Lincoln yielded these results:
Our vflyer postings show up in first and second postion, followed by our own Hotsheet blog, then Zillow, then LAlife (I have no clue who LAlife is, will have to check them out.) Trulia comes in sixth postion.
Another example, our listing at 3800 Scandia Way
On this one, our craigslist posting shows up first, followed by another craigslist posting that seems to have gotten jumbled up with something in Long Beach. Third and fourth position goes to Trulia. The vflyer posting comes in fifth, followed by Bob's posting on Active Rain.
Interesting, huh?
P.S. Also interesting to note: There is a single property website out there for 5024 Lincoln, that the photographer created: http://www.5024lincolnavenue.com That didn't show up on the first page of the search results.

UPDATE: It gets even more interesting. I just re-ran the search on 3800 Scandia. In less than one hour, things have changed. Trulia has moved into second and third position. Vflyer in fourth postion. And this VERY blog post here on Active Rain has moved into fifth position:
I'm posting this little trick just in case anyone reading here is not aware of it.
When I receive phone calls at home, I check the Caller ID before picking up the phone. If it is a number I don't recognize, I don't pick it up.
I've been getting so many calls from this particular number, I'd figured I'd Google the number and see what turned up.
Google the number? Yep, just type the telephone number in the Google search box, and hit search. If there is any reference at all to that number on the internet, Google will find it.
Well, there you go. Looks like my frequent caller wants to sell me life insurance. While I am, in fact, a firm believer in carrying life insurance, I am already well covered, and not particularly interested in taking their call.
Next time you see a number appearing frequently on your Caller ID, Google it!
